Orchard Brae Welcomes More Than 100 People to Information Event
Our information event sharing the vision for our development North Lanarkshire took place last week, with more than 110 people from the community out to hear what has been put forward to North Lanarkshire Council.
The updated masterplan, employment and residential led, mixed-use, zero-carbon community across the M8 from Eurocentral, now complements the proposed 200-acre country park, 980 housing mix and associated community facilities. Employment land would also be created, bringing more than 2,000 direct jobs, supplementing the 2,570 construction jobs the overall masterplan would generate for the area.
Plans will be made public through the Council’s planning portal, but as part of the renotification, we hosted the information event to share the updated vision on its evolved proposal for the area.
The event, which took place on Wednesday 6th March, welcomed people from across the community who were keen to find out more about our proposed development, which if successful could add more than £351 million of new investment to the area.
Our team shared the overall vision for the ‘green at heart’ development and highlighted our commitment to the community and local businesses, whilst reinforcing the sustainability, biodiversity and employability credentials in line with new NPF4 guidelines.
Stephen Tucker, Masterplanner of the proposed development, said: “As this part of the process was a renotification of our plans, we felt that details had changed enough that it was important we consulted and shared our vision of the proposals with the local area once more. Afterall, the community has been great in helping shape the plans to where we are now, so it was key we kept them updated with our progress.
“The level of engagement and support from the local community has already been incredibly encouraging and very useful as we move our plans towards a determination by North Lanarkshire Council and we are keen to show how that feedback has allowed us to shape our plans even further, ensuring community benefits including energy-efficient homes, community facilities and amenities and a dedicated, well-maintained 200-acre country park, with up to 65% of the overall development being green.
“Of course, we welcomed a range of viewpoints across the day, but it was great to see so many supportive voices who could see the real value in the thousands of jobs, homes, transport infrastructure and employment land, not to mention the pledges we have made relating to the country park and the extensive community facilities. We look forward to continuing forward with the planning process with North Lanarkshire Council.”
Sharon Craig, a local supporter who attended on the day said: “I think these plans are great for North Lanarkshire, as they offer the perfect mix of much-needed homes, community facilities and jobs that will help our communities thrive and the generations after us continue to prosper. This level of investment is what’s needed for our area and the fact that we will still enjoy a well-maintained country park and extended community facilities is a win-win for me and for my family.”
